Date Night doesn't have to be boring. If you're looking for some fresh ideas, you've come to the right place. Check these out! We've got something for everyone. Have fun!
The Great Outdoors:
- Get together with a few other couples and plan an epic potluck picnic. It's hot so keep the menu light. Think charcuterie, canteloupe wrapped in proscuitto, crisp salads, and light-weight beverages. Bring music and bug spray (I know, not so romantic, but neither is scratching and swatting flies and mosquitos.) Save the grilling and potato salad for the family cookout. Bring the real plates and silverware to make the meal extra special. Bonus points if you play the guitar and can serenade your partner.
- There are a myriad of outdoor activities in the Natural State. Try something you've never done before like disc golf, geocaching, rock climbing, or mining for diamonds! If you've already tried those, how about double dutch, water polo, or roller skating.
- Like the idea of watching movies in the park, but would rather have something more private and intimate? Lay out a blanket, get your favorite snacks, and hang a sheet to project movies on in the back yard at dusk. Yes, you'll definitely need the bug spray again. The upside is that you don't have to wait in line for the bathroom and you can drink whatever makes you happy, even in glass containers.
The Arts:
- We have a thriving performing arts community here in Central Arkansas and there are a variety of performances happening all week long. Whether you're looking for concerts, plays, musicals, spoken word, comedy, national acts, or local talent, you are sure to find something you like. Many churches feature regular musical events each week. It's a great way to support the arts while enjoying an evening out. Some of our favorite venues are: UA - Pulaski Tech CHARTS, Murry's Dinner Playhouse, Argenta Community Theatre, The Rep, The Joint, and the Robinson Center. Insider's Tip: These venues often sell out so get your tickets early! Case in point, the entire run of A Chorus Line at the Argenta Community Theatre is now waiting list only.
- Art Walks take place the 2nd Friday of the month in Downtown Little Rock from 5-8 pm, and the 3rd Friday of the month in Argenta from 5-8 pm. Not only will you see art displayed in various galleries and local businesses, but you can also enjoy finding art displayed in area restaurants, museums, and more. Take the free trolley and ride into downtown Little Rock and back. When in North Little Rock, it helps to check the Verizon Arena schedule to know what to expect. On event nights at Verizon, most parking lots in Argenta charge for parking.
Sporting Events:
- Take me out to the ball game! Visit Dickey-Stephens Park to see the Arkansas Travelers play. There are always cool promotions and giveaways going on and the fireworks show is spectacular! Check the event calendar for details.
Fun and Games:
- Remember passing time playing the original video games of your childhood? Ok, I know some of you have no idea what a Game Boy handheld is, let alone an old-school Ms. Pac-Man game (If you're curious or just dying to prove you still got it, you can find one at the Fun Wash near the intersection of McCain & JFK.) but hanging at the arcade used to be a thing. Thankfully they've made a little comeback. Check out Vortex in Sherwood at 4027 E. Kiehl Ave. in the same plaza as Sakura.
- If Virtual Reality experiences are what you're looking for, head over to McCain Mall (Regal Cinema entrance) and try the 9D Experience ride, a virtual reality seat simulator that puts you in the action. At only $8/person per ride, it's a fairly inexpensive prelude to a night at the movies. And they'll be open from 9 AM - 10 PM on Sat., August 3rd and 12:30 - 6 PM on Sun., August 4th for tax free weekend shoppers.
- How about a little RPG fun? Role-playing games are the paper and dice versions of video games. But there's so much more out there than the original Dungeons & Dragons. Head over to Imagine! Hobbies and Games in Sherwood located at 4051 E. Kiehl Ave. to see what's new. They're next door to Kapow Comics (be sure to check them out too!) Find them on Facebook and see their jam-packed gaming schedule.
Couch Potato Date Night:
- Yes, I'm absolutely serious about this one. Send the kiddos to a friend's house to spend the night. Order in your favorite cheat meal. Put on your comfy PJ's and get comfortable in front of your favorite movie streaming device. When you spend your week running around from activity to activity sometimes, a little downtime is just what the doctor ordered. Pillow fight, chick flicks, and lots of laughs make for a fun evening with just the two of you. (This is also a cool chick night with the girls. Just hang out without having to dress up!)
